» Diva » est le titre qui vous a rvle au public franais. Qu’avez-vous voulu dire avec cette chanson et quelle est la signification de votre nom » Dana International » ? (Elle sourit tout en soufflant sur ses ongles qu’elle vient de vernir … )
Tout d’abord, je vou-drais remercier le public fran-ais et spcialement le public gay qui est plus que formidable. J’ai dj fait quatre albums en Isral, mais c’est le titre « Diva » qui m’a fait connatre lors de l’Eurovision. Cette chanson me reprsente, c’est ma personnali-t, la joie, l’exubrance, mais aussi les larmes et la peur. Je chante qu’il ne faut pas tre effray par les autres, qu’il faut vaincre sa timidit et montrer au grand jour ce qu’on est… moi en l’occurrence. Je suis une diva et je le montre ! Mon nom est videmment un pseudo. Dana est un prnom qu’on retrouve frquemment dans les contes pour enfants, et Interna-tional… parce que cela symboli-se mon ouverture sur le monde.
Vous avez dclench un vritable scandale lorsqu’on a appris votre changement de sexe. Avec le recul, pensez–vous qu’il fallait l’afficher ?
Oui, effectivement, j’ai subi les foudres de certaines minorits en Isral, mais je pense que cette haine tait passagre. Il tait important pour moi de le dire parce que je mne ma car-rire comme je mne ma vie, c’est–dire avec droiture et fran-chise. Je suis d’abord un tre humain, pas un transsexuel ! Le public s’en fiche d’en savoir plus, ils viennent mes concerts et coutent mes disques. C’est « mon » essentiel.
Comment se droule une journe de Dana quand elle n’est pas International ?
Je vis Tel-Aviv, c’est une ville fabuleuse o les habitants sont adorables et trs chaleureux. Je vois mes amis, je fais du roller, je vais au cinma et dans les clubs gays ou htros, peu importe. Il faut que je bouge et que j’aille dans tous les sens. C’est important pour moi cette notion de changement constant.
Vos pochettes d’albums, vos vidos ou vos prestations scniques sont trs glamour. Suivez-vous vos gots personnels ou faites-vous appel des stylistes ? (Sa meilleure amie la recoif-fe … )
Je supervise tout. J’adore m’habiller, que ce soit en Thierry Mugler comme pour le visuel du single, soit en Jean–Paul Gaultier ou en Gianni Versace. J’ai surtout une passion pour les parfums, j’en change tout le temps, que ce soit Amen, Le Male ou ceux de Donna Karan. Ma couleur prf-re est le noir, comme ma couleur de cheveux.
Vous tes-vous inspire de personnages comme Divine ou Ru Paul ?
Je suis fan de Divine ! D’ailleurs, j’ai eu ma priode Divine (jeu de mots). Quant Ru Paul, je le trouve grandiose. Mais attention, Ru Paul est une drag-queen, ce que je ne suis pas. Je tire plus mon inspiration d’actrices comme Goldie Hawn ou Angelica Huston. Ce sont des desses.
Beaucoup de chanteuses s’engagent dans des carrires cinmatographiques, vous n’aimeriez pas tenter ce genre de challenge ?
Justement, j’ai t contacte par beaucoup de ralisa-teurs, mais on ne me proposait que des rles « too much ». J’ai eu enfin une offre trs intressante et je pense rellement faire un film prochainement. Mal-heureusement, je ne peux pas vous en dire plus, il parat que a porte malheur…
Dana, pensez-vous tre capable de mener la fois votre carrire et une vie sentimentale ?
Non, c’est impossible. Je suis trs possessive. Quand j’ai un amant, je veux tout savoir, o il est, ce qu’il fait… En amour, je suis une tigresse ! En ce moment, je n’ai personne. Je vais droite et gauche, mais rien de srieux. D’ailleurs je fais un appel aux lecteurs d’em@le : si vous avez le numro de Brad Pitt faites-moi plaisir et communiquez-le ma maison de disques!

Blocked up with the hotel Costes in full week of the gay functioning, the diva, accompanied by her best friend, received us for an interview which does not miss the prickly one.
» Diva » is the title which revealed you with the French public. What did you want to say with this song and which is the significance of your name » Dana International « ? (It smiles all into blowing on its nails which it has just varnished…)
First of all, I would like to thank the French public and in particular the gay public which is more than formidable. I already made four albums in Israel, but it is the title » Diva » who made known to me at the time of Eurovision. This song represents me, it is my personality, the joy, the exubrance, but also the tears and the fear. I sing that one should not be frightened by the others, that it is necessary to overcome its timidity and to show at the great day what one is… me in fact. I am a diva and I show it! My name is obviously pseudo. Dana is a first name which one frequently finds in the tales for children, and International… because that symbolizes my opening on the world.
You started a true scandal when one learned your change from sex. With do the passing, think — you that it had to be displayed?
Yes, indeed, I underwent the lightnings of certain minorities in Israel, but I think that this hatred was momentary. It was significant for me to say it because I carry out my career as I carry out my life, i.e. with uprightness and frankness. I am initially a human being, not a transsexual! The public is card-indexed some to know some more, they come to my concerts and listen to my discs. It is » my » essence.
How is it held one day of Dana when is not International?
I live with Such-Aviv, it is a fabulous city where the inhabitants are adorable and very cordial. I see my friends, I make roller, I go to the cinema and in the gay clubs or htros, it does not matter. It is necessary that I move and that I go in all the directions. It is significant for me this concept of constant change.
Your small pockets of albums, your vidos or your services scenic are very glamour. Do you follow your personal tastes or call you upon designers? (His/her best friend recoif-Fe…)
I supervise all. I adore to get dressed, that it either as a Thierry Mugler as for the visual one of the single, or as a Jean — Paul Gaultier or Gianni Versace. I have especially a passion for the perfumes, I change some all the time, that it is Amen, Male or those of Gave Karan. My preferred color is the black, like my color of hair.
Did you take as a starting point characters like Divine or Ru Paul?
I am fan of Divine! Moreover, I had my period Divine (pun). As for Ru Paul, I find it imposing. But attention, Ru Paul is a drag-queen, which I am not. I draw more my inspiration of actresses like Goldie Hawn or Angelica Huston. They are goddesses.
Do many singers engage in cinematographic careers, you would not like to try this kind of challenge?
Precisely, I was contacted per many realizers, but one proposed only roles to me » too much « . I had finally a very interesting offer and I really think of making a film soon. Unfortunately, I cannot say some to you more, it appears that that carries misfortune…
Dana, do you think of being able to carry out at the same time your career and a love life?
Not, it is impossible. I am very possessive. When I have a lover, I want all to know, where it is, which it does… In love, I am a tiger-cat! In this moment, I do not have anybody.
