Ds la sortie du premier album remix, les dtracteurs taient au rendez-vous… mais le succs du public les a fait taire. Aprs Comme si j’tais l,,, A ma manire et Dalida l’an 2005, Orlando sort un quatrime album rorchestr de sa soeur Dalida Le Rve Oriental.
Peut-on considrer Le Rve Oriental comme une suite logique de ce qu’aurait pu tre la carrire de Dalida aujourd’hui ?
Je ne pense pas. C’est plutt une rponse la demande du public. Dalida a enregistr plus de 1000 chansons et parmi ces chansons, il y en avait qui pouvaient tre adaptes aux rythmes les plus en vogue pour cet t, les rythmes hispano-orientaux, latino-salsa. On a beaucoup de chance avec la voix de Dalida car elle est facilement adaptable, dans la mesure o elle s’est exprime dans de nombreux registres diffrents pendant sa carrire. Aujourd’hui, la tendance actuelle nous permet de rpondre, avec les trsors que Dalida nous a lgus, la demande du public. Alors on le fait. Mais rien ne peut nous dire aujourd’hui si dans un an nous aurons matire nous adapter un nouveau courant et la possibilt de rpondre une attente du public.
Ce quatrime album rorchestr est nettement plus calme musicalement partant. Le fait de mler Dalida la musique des clubs comme vous l’avez fait sur les prcdents albums a-t-il t mal peru par ses fans, son public ?
Notre but tait vrai dire de conqurir une nouvelle gnration qui connaissait peu Dalida. Ses vrais fans, les puristes connaissent tout Dalida par coeur. On a vraiment russi notre tentative puisque les chiffres qui sont tombs l’anne dernire ont montr que 85% des gens qui achetaient les albums de Dalida avaient moins de 25 ans ! Nos esprances taient dpasses ! Nous sommes parvenus la projeter dans une gnration nouvelle, faisant de Dalida l’artiste la plus prsente de la deuxime moiti du sicle, toutes gnrations confondues ! Mme si ce disque est moins techno que les prcdents, il reste nanmoins trs dance, avec un esprit trs vacances en plus.
Vous ne craignez pas que ce Rve Oriental soit justement un peu trop oriental pour le grand public et drange un peu quelque part ?
Pas du tout. Ds qu’on parle d’exemples de carrires russies, on parle souvent du rve amricain. Pour Dalida, il faut bel et bien parler du rve oriental. Elle a russi mlanger les langues et les cultures de toute la Mditerrane. Elle a incarn le rve de russite de milliers de filles du Sud, issues de milieu modeste. Sur cet album, Dalida chante aussi en italien et en espagnol. Contrairement aux ides reues, cet album a suscit de trs bonnes ractions, grce ce mtissage des cultures et aussi la prsence de chansons moins connues que sur les autres albums. C’est un album chaud, ensoleill, chaleureux mme … un album qui lui ressemble et dans lequel le public la retrouve.
A quand un cinquime album ?
Rien n’est prvu, loin de l. Avec cet album, on a plusieurs titres qui ont le potentiel pour devenir des singles. On prfre donc le travailler davantage, plus longtemps que les prcdents, et laisser au public le temps de le dcouvrir.
Les albums remixs de Datida ont connu un succs colossal et beaucoup d’autres artistes s’y sont essay, sans grand succs. Quelles ont t vos ractions ?
J’ai t trs flatt car on n’imite que ceux qu’on aime, et c’tait pour moi un signe de reconnaissance de la part des professionnels. Du coup, les mdias se sont calms et leurs critiques sont devenues moins acides. Je leur souhaite tous du succs, mme si ce n’est pas toujours facile d’adapter les voix d’une poque aux rythmes actuels.
Contrairement Dalida, vous sortez beaucoup. Restaurants, bars, clubs : on vous croise partout ! Est-ce pour votre travail ou pour votre plaisir ?
C’est vrai que Dalida n’tait pas trs mondaine. Pour elle, sortir signifiait travailler, et quand elle voulait dner avec ses amis, a se faisait la maison, chez elle. Moi, j’ai toujours t fascin par le monde de la nuit. J’ai la chance de pouvoir joindre l’utile l’agrable quand je sors : je me fais plaisir et en plus, je contemple autour de moi toute cette jeunesse qui annonce les courants de demain. Frquenter ce public est trs enrichissant. La jeunesse d’aujourd’hui a des ides extraordinaires. J’aime les couter et apporter ventuellement mon exprience et ma maturit leurs ides et concrtiser un projet. Regarder les jeunes voluer me permet de garder une mentalit jeune. L’ge n’est pas important. Ce qui compte, c’est la mentalit !
Peut-on expliquer l’impact qu’a eu et qu’a toujours Dalida auprs des gays ?
Tout d’abord, je pense que Dalida avait ce ct glamour qui la rendait plus femme que toutes les femmes. Elle reprsentait pour les gays une soeur, une mre, une amante spirituelle… Elle tait la fois la femme forte et blesse. Et puis tout ce ct strass et paillettes a toujours beaucoup plu aux gays. Son charisme a fait d’elle un vritable mythe et a attir l’attention de tous les gays. Elle a galement t la premire s’engager avec son amie Line Renaud pour la lutte contre le sida.
Vous pensez qu’aujourd’hui elle se battrat pour les droits des gays ?
J’en suis certain, dans la mesure o Dalida s’est toujours battue pour dfendre les minorits. Elle aurait su s’adapter la couleur de l’poque, ses soucis et rpondre le mieux possible aux problmes poss, tout en restant intgre et fidle elle-mme : c’tait quelque chose de trs important pour Dalida et c’est ce qui lui a permis certainement de traverser autant de gnrations.
Avez-vous regard la dernire crmonie de l’Eurovision ?
Non, mais je vois o vous voulez en venir… Dana International ? Je pense que a nous a permis de constater que la socit avait volu. Le seul fait que tant de personnes l’aient slectionne et que l’ensemble des tlspectateurs l’aient plbiscite au point d’en faire la laurate de ce concours, nous donne peut-tre l’espoir d’une ouverture d’esprit plus grande qu’auparavant. Rien que a mrite des bravos !

Peut one to consider » the Eastern Dream » as a logical succession of what could have been the career of Dalida today? I do not think. It is rather a response at the request of the public. Dalida recorded more than 1000 songs and among these songs, there were some who could be adapted to the rates/rhythms more in vogue for this summer, the hispano-Eastern rates/rhythms, latino-salsa. There is much chance with the voice of Dalida because it is easily adaptable, insofar as it were expressed in many different registers during its career. Today, the current tendency enables us to answer, with the treasures that Dalida bequeathed us, at the request of the public. Then it is done. But nothing can say to us today if in one year we will have matter to adapt us to a new current and possibilt to answer waiting of the public.
Ce fourth album rorchestr is definitely more » calms » musicalement therefore. The fact of mixing Dalida with the music with the clubs as you did on the preceding albums it was badly perceived by its fans, its public? Our goal was to tell the truth to conquer a new generation which knew Dalida little. Its truths fans, the purists know any Dalida by heart. Our attempt was really made a success of since the figures which fell the last year showed that 85% of people who bought the albums of Dalida had less than 25 years! Our hopes were exceeded! We managed to project it in a new generation, making of Dalida the artist most present of second half of the century, all confused generations! Even if this disc is less techno that the precedents, it remains nevertheless very dance, with a spirit very holidays moreover.
Vous do not fear that this » Eastern Dream » is precisely a little too Eastern for general public and disturbs a little some share? At all. As soon as one speaks about examples of successful careers, one often speaks about the American dream. For Dalida, it is indeed necessary to speak about the Eastern dream. It succeeded in mixing the languages and the cultures of all Mediterranean. It incarn the dream of success of thousands of girls of the South, resulting from modest medium. On this album, Dalida also sings in Italian and Spanish. Contrary to the generally accepted ideas, this album caused very good reactions, thanks to this interbreeding of the cultures and as to the presence of songs less known as on the other albums. It is a hot album, sunny, cordial even… an album which resembles to him and in which the public finds it.
A when a fifth album? Nothing is envisaged, far from there. With this album, there are several titles which have the potential to become singles. One thus prefers to work it more, longer than the precedents, and to leave with the public time to discover it. Les albums remixs of Datida was a colossal success and much of other artists tested themselves there, without much success. Which were your reactions? I was very flattered because one imitates only those which one likes, and it was for me a sign of recognition on behalf of the professionals. Blow, the medias were calmed and their criticisms became less acid. I wish them with all of success, even if it is not always easy to adapt the one time voices to the current rates/rhythms.
Contrairement in Dalida, you leave much. Restaurants, bars, clubs: you everywhere are crossed! Is this for your work or your pleasure? It is true that Dalida was not very fashionable. For it, to come out meant to work, and when it wanted to dine with her friends, that was done at the house, at it. Me, I was always fascinated by the world of the night. I am likely to be able to join the useful one for pleasant when I leave: I give myself pleasure and moreover, I contemplate around me all this youth which announces the currents of tomorrow. To attend this public is very enriching. The youth of today has extraordinary ideas. I like to listen to them and possibly bring my experiment and my maturity to their ideas and to concretize a project. To look at the young people evolving/moving enables me to keep a young mentality. The age is not significant. What counts, it is mentality!
Peut one to explain the impact which had and which always has Dalida near the gays? First of all, I think that Dalida had this side glamour which returned it more woman than all the women. She represented for the gays a sister, a mother, a spiritual amante… She was at the same time the strong and wounded woman. And then all this side strass and spangles pleased the gays always much. Its charisma made of it a true myth and drew the attention of all the gays. It was also the first to be engaged with her friend Line Renaud for the fight against the AIDS.
Vous think that today it was battrat for the rights of the gays? I am certain, insofar as Dalida always fought to defend the minorities. It would have known to adapt to the color of the time, its concern and to answer the best possible one the problems arising, while remaining just and faithful to itself: it was something of very significant for Dalida and it is what enabled certainly him to cross generations as many. Avez you looked at the last ceremony of Eurovision? Not, but I see where you want to come from there… International Dana? I think that that enabled us to note that the company had evolved/moved. Perhaps the only fact that so many people selected it and that the whole of the televiewers voted by plebiscite it at the point to make the prize winner of this contest of it, shows to us the sign of a broadmindedness larger than before.
